Man with a Yelper Sculpture
This
carving was donated to the National Wild Turkey Federation at the 2000
Nashville Convention for auction as "The Millennium Call". The
call was a yelper made to look like an over and under shotgun, with an English
Walnut stock and Ebony barrel and receiver. The hunter is made of American
Walnut. The hunter was carved to depict a modern hunter, with a ball cap,
knee boots, and a pack full of turkey calls. The sculpture was made so the
gun is held in the traditional manner, i.e., cradled between the shoulder and
foot of the hunter. It detaches from the hunter and is a very functional
yelper. Protruding from under the flaps of the hunter's pack, a box call
and a slate call with strikers, can be seen. The base of the sculpture is
Mahogany. The "Millennium Call" is now in a private collection.
