The calls featured on this page are what I call “Carved Paddle Hunting Calls”. Carving on the sides of a box call is tricky business. Decorative box calls, carved top to bottom, often don’t have the range of sound, or the quality of tone, or both, of a fine hunting call. Quite frankly, the sound quality is in jeopardy whenever carving is executed on the sound boards, bottom, or ends of a box call. Everything about a box call is critical for realistic turkey sounds, except the top surface of the paddle. Of course the weight of the paddle affects the sounds of the call. A paddle so thick that the weight would affect the sound of the call would be a very thick piece of wood. By relief carving a slightly thicker than normal paddle, most of the extra weight is carved away, so the weight returns to an acceptable limit. Carved Paddle Hunting Calls offer the sportsman or collector the best of decorative carving, with the sounds of a fine hunting call. Your imagination is the limit of what you could have carved on your hunting call paddle. I offer calls with a slate insert in the paddle, eliminating the need for chalk, and calls without slate in the paddle. Any specie of wood with the ability to make turkey sounds is offered.
