A Pile of Leaves
This unique call won 2d Best of Show at the 1998 Grand National Decorative Turkey Call Competition at the National Wild Turkey Federation Convention at Indianapolis, IN. The pile of White Oak leaves was carved from a solid block of Burl American Walnut, and carved in the general shape of the State of Indiana, in honor of the convention site. The life-size feather was carved from Eastern Red Cedar, and painted. Under the feather a hollowed portion of the leaf-pile contained the bottom of a box call. The underside of the feather was shaped appropriately, and a hinged attachment point was made to hold the "feather" lid. Moving the shaft of the feather made the call work. |
