Push Pole Hunter
Burl
English Walnut. With his decoys and trusty Model #12 in the flat
bottomed boat, a hunter poles his way across the water, into the wooded wetland.
Seven Mallards flush through the timber at his approach. This scene is a
childhood memory of mine. I vividly remember an old -timer on the St. Francis
River between Missouri and Arkansas poling his way up and down the river with a
similar rig. Old Jack was a part of the culture of my youth in Southeast
Missouri. Most of the time he just jump shot the birds he flushed after a silent
approach, but often he would find an empty blind and crawl in for the mornings
hunt. He lived in a shanty across from the boat landing. He could tell some
tales. A simple man, simply living off the land in a bygone era. Burl English
Walnut. Wax finish. $2000.00.
